Don’t Let Technology Replace These Things

kindle1

Technology is great. It allows us to do many things more efficiently. It offers us new methods of completing old tasks. It keeps life interesting. However, new technology isn’t always the best tool for a job. Some people fail to realize this. They let new technology replace things that shouldn’t be replaced. This is particularly true in businesses.

Some of the things that you should avoid letting technology replace if you run a business include:

  • Mailing lists. You can do a lot of cool things with online marketing. However, you should also still buy mailing lists to do direct advertising. They reach a different group of customers.
  • Delivery maps. GPS and Google Maps are great tools. However, anyone who does deliveries should still have the standard big wall map up for everyone to see. This way, you know where you’re going even if the technology goes down.
  • Books. Don’t do all of your learning from blogs and news reports. Continue to buy books that are relevant to your industry.

I’m not saying that you shouldn’t use technology. Use the Internet and GPS and online marketing tools. Just use them as a supplement to your other tools rather than as a replacement for them.

Online maps still isn’t accurate. It still depends on other people providing them with the correct information.

    Great post!

I recommend books for research, too. Right now, anyone can write about anything and post it on the internet even though they’re not credible.

Not anyone can be published and therefore holds more credibility than information found on the internet.

I think direct mailing lists also tend to be more specific and really connect with your target market. And that is always a good thing.

Online maps are not always the most reliable because they tend to only give one route. And sometimes thats not always the best route that should be taken.

Oh and sometimes, online maps direct you to the wrong address because it was marked wrong on the map.

Technology has made life easier but it should not be used to run our lives.

    Thanks for the reminder!
