Should Kids Wear Flotation Devices To Swim Class?

You have signed your child up for Miami swimming classes so that he or she can learn how to swim. You’re getting all packed up for that first day of swimming lessons in Miami. You’ve got the towel, the goggles, the swimsuit … and then you spot the flotation vest that your child usually uses at the pool. Should you take it with you to swim class?
Most swimming schools will provide you with a list of things to bring to class when you sign up for swimming lessons. Check this list to see if there are any special instructions about whether or not to bring flotation devices to the first class. If not, then the decision is up to you.
Your child may feel more comfortable about learning how to swim if he or she can take along the flotation vest that is always a part of the swimming ritual. On the other hand, your child may get scared during class when it comes time to remove the vest. If you predict that this would be the case with your child, it is better to leave it behind from the get go.
In most cases, it won’t matter too much one way or the other what you decide about this. Children adapt really quickly to the environment that they are in. The instructor will set the stage with instructions about this issue during class and your child will naturally follow those instructions without too much trouble.
