Adding Warmth to a Home
Posted by MAGR on 03/18/09 in Hospitality
I believe that a home should be a place that is loving and warm, don’t you? I just hate walking in to those homes where all the furniture seems sterile and untouchable and everything about the place just emanates a chill. To make sure that this isn’t the kind of home I have, I add tools for warmth every chance that I get.
Some of these tools are literally things that bring physical warmth to the home. When I discovered how affordable two person hot tubs are, I immediately decided that a hot tub spa needed to go into my home. I keep blankets on every piece of furniture there is. And I have a fire going in my fireplace whenever it’s reasonable to do so.
But most of the warmth in my home comes less from the physical and more from the emotional. I try to make people feel welcome. I always have some soup or a bottle of wine to open up for guests when they drop by. I always try to invite people to drop by unexpectedly. It is these little things that truly infuse a home with warmth, I think. And to me, a warm home makes for a better life.

I disagree with you, I dont have a hot tub or a fireplace and my house is very homie. Some people like different things and one thing might feeln homie to one person and not to another.

My mom is the same way. My kids love going over to grandmas house because she always has a warm fire going and fresh baked cookies. Her house is so warm and cosey that I hate leaving. She also has a hot tub that is out of this world. When I get in it I really really do not want to get out!!!

My best friend bought a house about a year ago and whenever I go to her house it just feels so cold and not homie at all. I have tried telling her to make it more homie and warm but she likes it the way it is. I try and have her come to my house as much as possible. I agree with you I think youn should walk into a house and feel warm and comfortable!

I also try and make my house as warm and homie as possible. My husband and I recently had a fireplace put in our living room. It makes such a difference. I grew up with a firplace in my house and I have been wanting to put one in since we moved in to this house. My house is so much warmer and it reminds me of my home when I was a kid.
