Proof of Our Over-Dependence on Drugs

Not too long ago, there was a story that made big headlines: Tests had found surprising amounts of pharmaceuticals in our drinking water.  The drugs in the drinking water included prescription drugs such as painkillers, antibiotics, sex hormones, and vitamins.

Anymore, our society has a "just pop a pill" mentality.  Not eating enough spinach?  A multivitamin should do the trick.  Feel sick?  Go to the doctor and get antibiotics (without waiting to see if you need them to get better or not).  Got chronic pain?  That’s okay, there’s a pill for that too.

Unfortunately, this type of behavior is coming back to bite us in our collective butt: We’re now ingesting our (and everyone else’s) drugs in our drinking water.  See, our bodies really don’t digest pills that well, so we just piss a lot of it out again — and water treatment plants have no methods yet for detecting, let alone removing, pharmaceuticals from the water.

Luckily, for health-conscious people there are plenty of methods of alternative pain relief.  One proven method is using magnets for back pain relief and other types of chronic pain relief.  It may sound hokey, but it’s been proven that medical magnets, when placed over the source of the pain, interfere with the pain transmissions that the neurons send to the brain.

It’s pretty scary to find that our drinking water is contaminated like this, but hopefully all the press this is getting will encourage more people to find alternatives to prescription drugs!
