This is especially true if you have a family. People need to have health coverage regardless but finding it is difficult. Do you know what the rates normally run for this type of policy?

This is doubly important if you have a family. If you get sick or out of commission, who is going to provide for your family?

A good idea might be to put back some severance money and buy a short term policy. Seems like a good idea to me.

Make some cuts in other parts of your life, but be sure to keep your health insurance if you can. You may have to even switch companies.

I am self-employed, so many times I have periods where I have little or no work at all. I try and prepay most of my bills ahead of time, and part of that is my health insurance.

Make sure that this is something that you can afford. When you are unemployed, food, light, and the basic needs of life take priority. Make sure that the basic needs are taken care of and then make this one of your secondary priorities.
