Why is Divorce So Common?

Divorce statistics demonstrate a troubling trend, that divorce is becoming increasingly common in the United States. Just shy of half of all marriages end in divorce, according to the statistics commonly reported.
So why is divorce becoming so common in America?
One reason that is often cited is because it’s more accepted. That’s not to say that fewer couples have healthy relationships, but rather that the couples who don’t get along now have the ability to do something about it. Heaven only knows how many couples were miserable with one another a hundred years ago, before it was considered acceptable to dissolve a marriage.
Of course, many cynics often say that unrealistic expectationns are also contributing to the high divorce rate. Young boys and girls are groomed with Disney fairy tale endings, and when they discover that there’s more work involved than “happily ever after” indicates, they think something is wrong and call it quits. Perhaps this is true, but at the same time there’s something slightly disturbing about the notion that people should stay together even when they are miserable together.
Regardless of why divorce is so common, there are far more options than the old-fashioned mud-slinging contest in divorce court. These days a lot of people choose to work things out without getting a judge involved. Getting a divorce in Arizona doesn’t have to be expensive if you can come to an agreement on your own.
If you aren’t on good enough terms to work out the details yourself, you can also look into divorce mediation in Scottsdale. Basically this is where an attorney operates as a mediator in order to help you make decisions that you might not be on good enough terms to make on your own.
At least if we can’t change the divorce rate in this country, we can make it a little less miserable to get one, right?
