Cost of a New Cat

I think that pets are great. They add fun and liveliness to a home. However, I also think that most people don’t realize until it’s too late that a pet is a really big expense. It’s important to consider the cost of getting a new cat or dog before actually making the decision to get one.
Some common pet costs include:
- Cost of getting the cat. You can get them free but a lot of people don’t go with this option and spend a lot on getting the cat.
- Cost of shots and spaying or neutering the cat. These are necessary medical expenses for the pet.
- Emergency medical expenses. If your cat gets hurt or sick, you’d better have money to take care of it.
- Cat toys. There are a lot of fun cat toys out there like kong cat toys but they do cost money.
- Cat food. Your cat will need to eat every single day and that costs money.
- Kitty litter. This is another daily expense for your cat that isn’t going to come cheap.
- Cat carrier and other stuff related to traveling with your pet. Alternatively, you may opt to board the pet or get a pet sitter which is another expense.
As you can see, just these basic pet expenses add up quick. Only get a new cat if you can truly afford to do so.
