Staying Out of Texas!

When I was 10 or 11, my dad was laid off of his job in Denver.  Even though it was only about four years since we’d gone shopping for (and bought) Denver real estate, he was looking at getting a job in Texas, so next thing we knew we were shopping for Houston real estate.

We went down to Houston that summer to look at houses.  Good golly it was hot!  Being from Denver, where it gets hot in the summer but not humid, and not unbearably hot by any means, my sister and I were shocked by the heat.  We had lived in Tennessee when we were really little, but we really didn’t remember much about how hot it was.

I guess it could have been worse, though — we could have been shopping for Brooklyn real estate.  I just can’t see myself surviving for five minutes in that city!

Luckily, soon after we got back my dad found a promising job in Denver, so rather than buy a house, sell a house, and go through the trouble of moving us all, he took the Denver job.  Boy am I glad!  There are so many wonderful things in my life that never would have come to pass had we moved to Texas.
